ICYMI developed as an internet abbreviation used in digital communication, including online forums, news posts, and social media. It became useful for sharing older information that people might have missed when it was first published. Today, content creators, brands, students, and everyday users often place ICYMI at the beginning of a post to highlight an update, announcement, or popular video. Its main purpose is to save time, attract attention, and make it easy for people to catch up on important information.
